Janice Folk Dawson
NDP MP Candidate (Federal)
Guelph
An election could be called any time and we need to be ready. The Liberal incumbent has announced he is not seeking re-election. We have a real opportunity to turn Guelph orange!
I hear from fellow workers, retirees and community members every day. It’s time for a change. Enough with the talk, we need action! I am an experienced advocate with a track record of effectiveness. I know how to secure resources, advance progressive policy solutions and mobilize our community.
I share your priorities - meaningful improvement on the housing affordability crisis; strengthening our strained healthcare system; mitigating climate havoc; protecting our air, land and water; supporting local sustainable food systems and enacting the calls to action of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
I have lived in Guelph for over 35 years. My partner Bob and I raised our son Dylan here in Guelph. I know what it’s like to be a parent in this community, to be working class, to be a tenant. I have been an activist and leader in our community. I served as the President of CUPE 1334 at the University of Guelph and President of Guelph District Labour Council. I have worked to advance workers’ rights across the province - formerly as the Executive Vice President of the Ontario Federation of Labour and now with CUPE Ontario.
I am not only seeking your support, but also your involvement. I truly value our community members’ diversity of experiences and expertise. Let’s share our ideas, our struggles and our hope for the future.
Make no mistake, this is the start of our campaign to win the Guelph riding.
